Ķipēni Permaculture & Bio-Farming
Farming at Ķipēni
The Ķipēni Estate manages around 10 hectares as a biological, permaculture farm. This is a holistic farming system that creates sustainable human habitats and food systems that mimic natural ecosystems.
We emphasise working with nature through observation, incorporating elements that are seen in nature such as crop rotation and natural pest management rather than chemicals. We believe that systematic planting of different crop species in the same field over successive seasons improves soil health, reduces pests, and enhances biodiversity, aligning with permaculture's goal of creating self-sustaining ecosystems.
We currently farm wheat; fruit, including apples, pears and blackcurrants; vegetables, including potatoes, onions, tomatoes, gherkins, paprika and herbs; chickens and bees; forestry, hay and natural meadow.
Farming Experience
For those who feel like a break from their normal worklife and are looking for an active break where your body is tested at the same time as learning new skills, we offer a limited number of work experiences where you can live on the farm and take part in the daily farming activities.
The experiences naturally vary with the season so contact us at Ķipēni Farm to find out more...
